ANTONIO VIVALDI ORCHESTRA
The Antonio Vivaldi Orchestra, founded in 2011, quickly established itself as a permanent fixture on the Italian music scene, boasting collaborations with the country’s most important concert seasons, festivals, and musical institutions.
Its members, selected from among the most promising young musicians in Italy, have experience playing with major European orchestras (including the London Symphony Orchestra, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, RAI National Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra of the National Academy of Santa Cecilia, Teatro alla Scala Philharmonic Orchestra, Teatro “La Fenice” Orchestra in Venice, Teatro di San Carlo Orchestra, and the Teatro Petruzzelli Orchestra in Bari). They are all united by the desire to create a young and innovative artistic ensemble.
The Antonio Vivaldi Orchestra has performed more than two hundred and fifty symphonic concerts in major Italian concert halls and theatres, including the Sala Verdi of the Milan Conservatory, the Scuola Grande di San Rocco in Venice, the Bibiena Theatre in Mantua, the Teatro Sociale in Como, the Comunale in Vicenza, and the Filarmonico in Verona. A tour of Spain in 2014, which consistently sold out, marked the Orchestra’s debut on the European stage. International engagements continued in Switzerland and Luxembourg. In December 2019, it performed in China on a tour of six concerts.
In 2015, just four years after its founding, the Antonio Vivaldi Orchestra became the “orchestra in residence” for the “Serate Musicali” concert season in Milan, thus securing a prominent role in a programme shared with some of the world’s greatest artists.
Also in 2015, following major restoration work to return it to its original function, the Orchestra inaugurated the reborn Teatro Sociale in Sondrio with a performance of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, which was met with great public and critical acclaim. Starting from the 2016/2017 season, the Orchestra became “resident” at this same theatre.
The repertoire of the Antonio Vivaldi Orchestra extends to embrace contemporary music, through ongoing collaborations with some of the most important composers on the national scene, such as Silvia Colasanti, Fabio Vacchi, Giorgio Battistelli, Piergiorgio Ratti, and Andrea Portera.
The Orchestra also boasts collaborations with internationally renowned conductors and soloists.
The young artistic leadership is composed of Lorenzo Passerini (Musical Director) and Ernesto Colombo (Production Director). The Vivaldi Orchestra’s activities are supported by the Ministry of Culture, the Lombardy Region, and local authorities.
